Great need for expertise among consultants and developers

Jeanette Lindeblad is interviewed in the offshore section of the latest issue of Swedish Windpower Magazine on the great need for expertise among consultants and developers.

It is a known fact that the industry is crying out for expertise. In addition to the much-publicised need for wind power technicians and engineers, there is also a lack of expertise among developers, including in terms of applications and EIA processes.

- Today, it is very difficult to find experienced personnel who know wind or solar power. There is a kind of cannibalism, that is, you only recruit internally within the industry. This is a problem, because we need to bring in more people from outside.

A contributory factor to the problem is that developers do not get exclusivity for individual areas in the sea. Instead, several actors often develop projects in the same location. This means a significantly greater need for staff with experience of project applications among developers and consultants, as well as the extra staff to scrutinise all double applications to the authorities.
- This is counterproductive. If you eliminate this double assessment at sea, it would certainly free up a lot of resources as well. The municipal veto also needs to be changed, as you know. If more qualitative applications had been approved by the municipality, we would have been able to reach our goals faster.
